Bryant-Sponsored Tony Kanaan Wins 97th Running of Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS, May 31, 2013 – Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems earned its first-ever victory at the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race since beginning its participation in auto racing in 1958. Bryant-sponsored Tony Kanaan led a total of 34 laps on the way to his first victory in his 12th appearance at the fabled "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Bryant is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Bryant has a rich tradition in auto racing and is the longest-standing non-automotive sponsor at the Indianapolis 500. Legends such as Eddie Sachs, Rodger Ward, Cale Yarborough, Scott Brayton, Chip Ganassi, Stan Fox and Janet Guthrie have all run under the Bryant Racing banner, earning a total of 16 previous race victories on other tracks.

Kanaan became the 68th driver to win the May Classic after a grueling battle featuring a record-high 68 lead changes. Bryant has worked with Kanaan for six of the last seven IndyCar Series seasons, and in that time, the Brazilian driver has earned eight victories including Sunday's win.

"This is the biggest win of my career," said Kanaan after the race. "I knew at the beginning [of the race] that we had a great car - I knew that from the get-go. We had a great plan and it was just one of those days. Everything was so smooth. This place has always been special to me, so to finally earn a win here is just unbelievable."

For Bryant, the Indianapolis 500 provides the ideal backdrop to bring a large contingency of dealers from across North America to the Circle City. During the weekend, Bryant announces its Circle of Champions, which are Bryant Factory Authorized Dealers that are judged on overall Bryant-branded product sales growth, high-efficiency and indoor air quality equipment sales, customer satisfaction and participation in various dealer programs and promotions. This year, 55 Bryant Factory Authorized Dealers throughout the U.S. and Canada qualified for and were presented with the prestigious Circle of Champions award.

Of those 55 winners, 15 are selected as Medal of Excellence Winners from across five regions of North America, and the culmination of the weekend comes when Bryant announces its Dealer of the Year. In addition, each year Bryant's driver visits with the group to talk with them and highlight what to watch for on race day.

"Bryant has been a part of the Indianapolis 500 for a long time and we couldn't be more pleased with Sunday's result," said Chris Nelson, president, residential and commercial systems, Bryant. "Tony had a fantastic race and much like Bryant's Whatever It Takes℠ philosophy, he ran strong all day and put himself in the right position on the final laps to take the win. We're proud of him and we look forward to going for two in a row next season. The Indianapolis 500 provides a unique setting for us to recognize our Bryant dealers. The entire weekend is a way to celebrate them and this year, Tony gave us the ultimate icing on the cake."
